| Type: | Master Programme |
| Topics: | The main focus is computer aided architectural design and its automated production: - parameterised caad, which enables an adaptable client based architecture through individual and quickly modifiable drawing - multimedia based interaction systems which use programmed behaviours to extend digital designs beyond purely paper-based presentations - internet based interaction enabling new forms of product development and marketing - object oriented programming which defines organisation structures in software design, and the application of this concept to architecture and the design of physical buildings. This concept of programming is the basis for computer generated architecture - CNC production enables the physical production of individual architectural items using cutting and milling machines at the department |
| Objectives: | Successful graduates - are able to describe, generate, produce and market architecture and design using information technologies - have a sufficiently systematic way of thinking which allows for the definition of object organisation structures in software and architectural design - know the concept of object oriented programming and have experience in techniques of computer generated architecture - know the principles of CAAD scripting languages and have experience in techniques of parametric design - know multimedia presentation techniques which connect digital designs with specific design behaviours - know internet based technologies which enable new forms of product development and marketing - know different methods of CNC production und have experience in the production of architectural items |
| Professional perspectives: | Successful graduates of the MAS programme are prepared for challenging tasks and positions regarding computer based architectural design and its automated production in the following sections: collaboration in firms (architectural and industrial design, software development and web design); research and teaching; consulting services for public and private actors. |
| Programme structure: | One year of full-time study. Full-time presence is mandatory. The programme is divided into 5-6 seminar based modules of 4-6 weeks each, where basic knowledge and skills are obtained. Each module is concluded with an assignment. The master thesis is an application of the cumulative skills & knowledge, merged with a specific question. The thesis relates the range of interests from the Chair of CAAD to the specific methodology of architecture. The average duration of the thesis is approximately 3 months. |
| Target group: | University graduates with a degree on the master level and highly qualified persons with a degree from a university of applied sciences in architecture or a related field. |
| Requirements: | Master's degree acknowledged by ETH in architecture or a related field or equivalent educational qualifications |
| Required language skills: | English: B1, German: advantageous - Show proficiency scales |
| Tuition languages: | English: 100 % |
