MAS ETH in Development and Cooperation (MAS ETH DC)

Type: Master Programme
Topics: The Master Programme in Development and Cooperation with fully financed project assignment consists of three parts: a study semester with lectures and seminars covering major issues of development and development cooperation; a project assignment between 8 and 10 months, where students gain professional experience; and advanced training courses on methods and instruments of development cooperation as well as policy issues (these courses can be attended in one semester or in-service in max 4 semesters).
Objectives: Preparation of postgraduate students of all disciplines for a career in development cooperation.
Professional perspectives: The master program qualifies graduates for a career in development cooperation and similar work areas in the public and private sector.
Programme structure: Study semester: Lectures and seminars on theoretical and empirical aspects of social, political, economic and demographic development as well as environment issues (about 340 contact hours, 25 ECTS credits). Students must complete a term paper in small groups and there are exams at the end of the study semester.
Project assignment: On-the-job training in an ongoing project of development cooperation (8 - 10 months, 30 ECTS credits). A project report and a research essay are required.
Advanced training courses: Block courses of 3 - 5 days duration to deepen and expand knowledge and experience in methods of development cooperation and policy issues (about 260 contact hours, 12 ECTS credits).
Target group: Postgraduates who are interested to start a career in development cooperation.
Requirements: Master's degree acknowledged by ETH or equivalent educational qualifications. Criteria for admission include academic qualification, existing knowledge of development issues, personal aptitude for a career in development cooperation, quality of professional experience.
Required language skills: German: C1, English: C1 - Show proficiency scales
Tuition languages: German: 95 %  English: 5 %

Programme duration: Approximately 20 months
Location: ETH Zurich and a developing country during the project assignment
Fees: CHF 3860 for the entire Master Programme. The project assignment is fully payed.
Deregistration fee: After 30 days upon admission: CHF 1'930
Degree: Master of Advanced Studies with the title 'MAS ETH in Development and Cooperation' (MAS ETH DC)
Credit points: 67 ECTS credits
