The continuing education programmes offered by ETH Zurich are tailored to the needs of specialists and executives with an academic background who work in private and public companies or in the administration, or are engaged in research, teaching and consultancy.

Master programmes (MAS, MBA)

are designed to further deepen people’s specialist skills or to expand their knowledge into interdisciplinary fields, and can lead on to a new profession. They correspond to at least 60 ECTS credits and 600 contact hours, require a master thesis or project work and generally last between a year (full-time courses) and two years (part-time courses while working). The admission requirement is a master’s degree from the ETH, a degree recognised as equivalent from a different university, or an equal-ranking educational background. Upon successful completion of the programme, students are awarded the academic title of 'Master of Advanced Studies ETH in...' (abbreviated to MAS ETH ...) or  'Master of Business Administration ETH in...' (abbreviated to MBA ETH ...).

Diplomas of Advanced Studies (DAS)

are designed to further deepen people’s specialist skills or to expand their knowledge into interdisciplinary fields. They are aimed at university graduates (generally with a master’s degree or equivalent qualification) who are working and wish to enhance their professional skills or specialise in a particular subject. They correspond to at least 30 ECTS credits and 300 contact hours and generally involve written project work or a thesis. They are organised in the form of block courses or courses on fixed days of the week and last one to two years. Successful participants are awarded a 'Diploma of Advanced Studies ETH in...' (DAS ETH ...).

Certificates of Advanced Studies (CAS)

are designed to further deepen people’s specialist skills or to expand their knowledge into interdisciplinary fields. They are aimed at university graduates (generally with a master’s degree or equivalent qualification) who are working and wish to enhance their professional skills or specialise in a particular subject. They correspond to at least 10 ECTS credits and 150 contact hours and can include written project work or a thesis. They are organised in the form of block courses on fixed days of the week and last one to two years. Successful participants are awarded a 'Certificate of Advanced Studies ETH in...' (CAS ETH ...).

Teacher training

is offered in three variants at ETH Zurich. The Teaching Diploma for Grammar Schools and the Master of Advanced Studies in Secondary and Higher Education correspond to at least 60 ECTS credits and are aimed at those interested in a teaching post at grammar schools (Teaching Diploma), specialist secondary schools, Universities of Applied Sciences and other institutes of higher education. The Teaching Certificate, which comprises 24 ECTS credits, certifies the successful completion of basic didactic training for purposes of taking up a teaching post at a University of Applied Sciences, a part-time post at a vocational school or in-firm training. The teacher training can be taken in parallel to a bachelor’s or master’s course, while studying for a doctorate, or while working. Diplomas will only be awarded to those holding the corresponding master’s degree and, where necessary, may demand additional training in the chosen subjet.

Further training courses, seminars and conferences

are more in-depth, interdisciplinary events in one of the ETH Zurich’s specialist areas. They last one or more days and are aimed at qualified experts working in the fields concerned. What is taught is generally the very latest knowledge obtained from research, at academic level, and application-oriented knowledge.

Distance education courses

are e-learning programmes that could be of interest to specialists from outside the ETH Zurich (primarily for continuing education purposes), even though they are generally aimed at students. A fee is payable for some of the courses, while others are free-of-charge.

Further offers for external students

are additional courses for continuing education offered by the ETH Zurich or related institutes, as well as continuing education programmes which are aimed primarily at students, lecturers and employees of ETH Zurich but which can also be followed by persons from outside the university.

Internal continuing education: courses for those belonging to ETH Zurich

Continuing education courses
